A firing solution needs a range below 2,400 m, depth of 14 m or less, and speed of 8 knots or less. Turn within 40° of the target. The fire control officer calculates the lead. Torpedoes travel straight: close the range for a better shot.

After firing, dive and run silently to escape the escort. Surface to recharge. Patrol time and weapon travel are accelerated for a shorter mission.
