You are the Crown. Time flows on its own (pause with ❚❚). Letters arrive; your choices bend the realm. Set taxes, tolls, tithe and levy pay with the sliders. Spend the treasury on works — mills and dams raise the harvest and the tax base, villages grow into towns, walls and beacons ready you for a war you can fund but never command. As settlements swell from village to town to city, greater works unlock — markets, stone roads and a guildhall enrich the purse, and a city may raise a university, a cathedral, or a sea-harbor; locked works show the tier they still require. Once a harbor opens the sea, you may mount expeditions past the last chart — each returns a captain's letter: a discovery, a peril, or word of a realm across the Sundered Sea. Works take seasons to build. Barges pay toll passing the capital; the river freezes in winter and the tolls with it. Raise men-at-arms, ride royal progresses, and pay informants to sharpen the whispers. Your reign autosaves in this browser; “Copy history link” makes a link that replays your exact reign anywhere. Survive twenty years and the crown passes to your heir — or lose it, and take it back.
For agents at the helm (or humans in the console):

annals.choices() // pending letter, if any
annals.choose(i) // answer the letter with option i
annals.setSlider(k,v) // 'tax'|'toll'|'tithe'|'pay'

annals.builds() // available works + costs
annals.speed(0..3) // 0 pauses
annals.advance(n) // step n weeks while paused

annals.spy() // pay informants (80 gold)
annals.history() // shareable link that replays this reign
Same seed + same actions on the same weeks = the same history. Share a realm with #s=<seed>.
A reader's index to the reign and the House that holds it — persons, places, houses, wyrms, and the crowns already closed, with the years they surface. Read-only; the record as it stands. Given names may recur in the realm; title, office, and House identify the person meant.
The making of the book, and the levers that tend it. v—
One HTML file. No servers, no accounts, no store — the reign lives in the page. A reign is a pure function of its seed and the choices you made, so a history link carries the whole telling: hand someone the link and they watch the same reign, letter for letter, down to the last leaf.
The letters, the map, the marginal notes, the monk’s judgment, and the ambience are all made at the moment you read them — nothing is fetched, nothing is stored elsewhere. What you play is what you can post.
Built in the spirit of emollick/annals-kingdom, and in debt to King of Dragon Pass for the lesson that a letter should remember. The factions here scheme on their own procedural agendas; the armies are never yours to command.
